Hi all,

I'm having a 3,500 sq. ft. house built in NJ and the builder is offering an upgrade to R38 from R30 in the attic for $600. Is it worth it? How long would you guesstimate before it pays for itself?

Thanks!

try that site it might give you some data. Im pretty sure you actually need R49 though in NJ not R38 and definately not R30.
Going from R30 to R38 is really blowing in about 2 more inches of insulation so he is charging you alot. You could let him do the R30 then blow in 6 more inches to give you R49 yourself. Based on the sq footage of the attic youd spend waay less than 600 bucks.
