is there a trick to ripping out steel casement windows from a block constructed house? i was planning on removing the glass portion, then just beating the hell outa the frames. it looks as if it was nailed in 60 years ago. should i try to pry the nails out?

The trick would involve making a cut in the frame with a reciprocating saw and a course toothed metal cutting blade. This will weaken the jamb enough that a large wrecking bar should fairly easily bend the steel jamb when you pry behind it.
Once you get one side out, you can usually collapse the other sides in toward the center of the opening.
Just pray that the fools who built the place did not pour concrete down the jambs as they were blocking up the walls. I had to tear about 16 of those out of one building and they just about beat me. Solid concrete inside a steel jamb is pretty hard to remove. :(
