I've used a hammer drill to remove the plaster covering an interior brick wall. I live in the city and the exposed brick looks great! However, some of the plaster did not come off cleanly, and now there are bits of hard, sandy plaster on some of the bricks. I keep reading to use a wire brush, and that works, but it is really damaging the surface of the bricks as well! Are there any other options for removing this that would be a little gentler on the bricks?

Probably not - the plaster might be harder than the brick so that anything that can scratch the plaster can also scratch the brick.
