Hello All:

I am a newbie attempting to install Home Depot “Home Legend” bamboo in a very small room. I have installed pergo-type [floating] flooring in the past in another part of my home. That said, I really love the REAL look of wood (grass in the case) and want to experiment with a small room and see if I can get the confidence to do larger parts of my home.

These are the facts:

Home Location: Lake Tahoe, NV (Low Humidity)
Room type: Guest Bathroom (infrequently used)
Dimensions: It is about 87” long and 64” wide
Sub-Floor: Wood Sub-floor
Level of Skill: Moderate. I can read and follow instructions, I own and have used a miter saw but am by no means a true “Do it Yourselfer”, YET!

Overall, I was pleased with the floating “installation” of my pergo floors with one exception. I did not do the greatest job making sure each space at the edge of each wall was evenly and precisely gapped. Because I have yet to put down boarders/trim – that part looks like crap.

OK – so my questions are:

1. I want to install this “floating” and my belief is that this can be done with the Home Legend product. Any reason why I shouldn’t?
2. Any tips on how to stagger the planks so that it looks good?
3. Has anyone else used bamboo in a bathroom and how the hell do you install a new toilet!???
4. What should I do where the planks meet the edge of the built in shower? It’s not a perfect line but rather a curved line so I’m not sure how I can shape the plank that would go next to the edge of the shower – I can’t widdle it into the shape! What to do? And, do I caulk it or how to seal? I can't put a border here - it would look funny.

I am allowing the planks to adjust to the room’s temp/humd., and will wait the required 3 days. Where do I start after that?

Thanks, any input would be much appreciated.

I'm definitely no pro, but from what I've heard installing any wood product in a bathroom with a shower is a bad idea. Maybe a powderoom. In a place where there is going to significant spikes in the humidity, as well as persistent water, like a shower. I would recommend choosing a different flooring material.
