Ok... here is the situation, my wife noticed our sinks and toilets getting rusty water today twice. Both times it was when the washer was running on warm. Any ideas on what may be going on? Older home... 1952. As far as I know no major modifications if any on the plumbing in here.
any help would be great
thanks

city water...
new developments here.. checked the water heater, took some water from there no rust, no noise from the water heater either. Now while the water has seen to have cleared up, our cold water doesnt get as cold as it did even a few days ago... its not warm, but borders on cool instead of cold.
Any thoughts... galvanized plumbing here, my father in law said it could be a corroded pipe... anything a novice should try before calling a plumber?

Hello: cmishh
Based upon the problem description, rusty water in the cold water, as well as in the warm water, in the sinks and toilets too... this condition is not specifically a water heater problem.
The problem is the old galvanized water pipes are internally corroded. Piping flushing nor replacing the water heater, etc will solve the problem. Re-piping with copper is the only long term solution.

How far away from the water heater do you feel your COLD water line, that feeds your water heater, as being warm. And how close to the hot water heater's COLD line is there another pipe taking water to some other fixture in the house?
Do all cold water faucets in the house have that equally cool rather than cold temp, or is one warmer than the others, and if so is it the one closest to water heater?
Is that cool, not cold, temp sustained almost indefinitely, or is it warmest just after you run the faucet for a few seconds and then it goes back to being cold?
