I need to add foundation vents to my house, so I want to knock out some bricks, add the vents, then seal them by putting mortar around the outside. However, "mortar" confuses me. Can anyone tell me what product at Lowe's or Home Depot I should buy? The only thing that looks close is this:

Quickrete has a product on their site called "Quickrete masonry cement," but it looks like I have to get a 70 lb bag and mix it with 3 parts sand. I can do that, although I can't find that masonry cement at lowe's, so I'm wondering if this is not the right product. Do they not make a gallon bucket of something I can just scoop out and slather around the vent? And if not, what product do I need? Thanks for the help!

Do not use what you posted. It is mean for a different purpose.

What you want is a bag of MORTAR, which is the dry cement and sand together in a bag. You are correct that you do not want the cement since you will still have to get sand.

surprised the Lowes does not have it. I have seen it in every HD that i have been in. It is also available ar hardware stores, building materials dealers and ar brick & block yards.

Alternative is Sakrete Mortar Mix in 40 or 80 lb bags.

Whatever product you buy will specifically reference brick work or else it's not what you want.

Whatever big box you would go to likely will have something but the "help" may not know it.People with actual knowledge about what they sell will know what you need as it is a basic hardware question.Try a real hardware store.

To save yourself some money is to buy (paragon plastic cement & sand)and to mix it yourself. 3(sand) to 1(cement)
Home depot carries it. The cement is about $10.00 for a 94lb bag. Hope this helps
