What would the best way to patch a round 1" hole in a recessed panel on an exterior wooden garage door, without attempting to replace the entire panel? (the panel thickness is probably 1/4" thick)
The easiest way seems be to place mesh on the interior side of door, and fill the hole with wood putty, sand, prime and paint? (this sounds too easy, and afraid may look shoddy)
Any advice "wood" be appreciated.
Thanks

Would it look bad if you secured a piece of wood to the back side of the panel and then attach a round 'plug' to it? You would then caulk or putty the small gap around the hole.
