I recently moved into a home which is wired for security. The keypad is a Ademco 6150. I noticed there were a few posting on here for resetting the password since the previous owner did not know the password and did not use the system. I followed the posting about disconnecting power, reconnecting and pressing the * and # simultaeously, which supposedly takes you to *20 to reset the master password. When I did this, it set the alarm off. At least I now know that the alarm works, but I still am unable to reset the password. Thank you in advance for any assistance.

Did you disconnect both the AC and battery, so the keypad was dead / blank? If so, they may have it locked. There is a way to do that, I believe, to prevent you from getting in this way. It's not done often, though.

* + # is a police panic in normal mode, you must completly power down both battery and a/c, then press * + # at the same time. I imagine you have 99 reading on your keypad.

Also, 6150 is the keypad model, what is the alarm system model? This has a bearing on what features you have or don't have.
Normally this will be on the diagram on the inside of the system can door (where the battery is located). Given the keypad model, it's probably a Vista 15p or a Vista 20p, but these keypads are compatible with older models as well.
