Outdoor Power Equipment and Small Engines - Throttle / Governor Issues

While mowing the lawn recently, my mower idled down and would not throttle back up, regardless of the throttle setting. I thought the mower needed a tune up, so I took care of that. Still - no better. So I thought it was the governor spring, and replace that (no difference between the new and old spring). I did notice that moving the throttle from slow to fast did not really do anything to the spring or the linkage to the governor arm. Below are a couple of pictures. Anyone have any ideas what's up?

Is it possible your throttle control on the handle has broken inside since when you move it from slow to fast nothing happens at the carb. Have a good one. Geo

I see the cable move down by the carb when I move the throttle lever.

If you see the cable moving down by the carb, then look to see if the lever the cable is hooked to is putting tension on the governor spring. It is possible that the spring has come off or broken. Or if you might have come in contact with a bush or shrub that has bent the lever so that tension is not being applied to the spring.

In either position, it look like it's doing much to the spring at all.

I'm betting this problem happened while you were mowing under something. I believe something bent the tab where the spring connects. On the first picture, near the bottom where the spring connects is a hole in a black metal tab. With the throttle control set at full speed, bend this tab towards the front of the mower until the engine runs at the full speed rpm.

I agree, in the second photo it appears that you have the throttle control set at full throttle and you should have spring tension and you don't. Bend the tab foward, as Cheese instructed, and you should be good. Don't go overboard so that the engine races however.
