Like many posts I have read, I inherited a Brinks alarm system. I have lived in the house for three years using the alarm locally with no problem. Now I have a communication problem alarm. I have checked the phone line at the box and all is well.
It is clear from reading similar posts that this situation is not easily resolved with Brinks.
Why can't I just disable the speakers in each of the two keypads to stop the periodic beeping? I use the system locally so the CP alarm can flash its heart out on my display for all I care. There must be a way to disable the speaker inside the keypads yes?
I realize that I will not hear if someone is fiddling with pad and I will loose the door chime option but atleast I can still use the sytem locally.
Thanks

Have you switched phone providers by chance? Often the panel may supervise the line voltage and Digital and VOIP phones have dropped voltages. If you insist on using the system locally, I suppose you could open up the keypad and cut one lead to the speakers. I would not recommend this, because you could break the keypad in opening the case. I would power down this system, or replace the panel and kp's with a non-proprietary system that can be programmed as a local alarm.

We switched to digital phones about a year ago. I have already popped open both keypads but can not figure out how to disable the speaker.

Do you have DSL?
Sometimes you have to purchase special filters onto the main line.

In many keypads, the sounder is soldered directly to the PC board, and most anything you could do to kill it, will likely kill the keypad.
Really, it's not what you want to hear, but when you have Brinks hardware, you either deal with them, or replace the hardware with non-propriatory parts.

I was able to resolve the problem by powering down the system. I had it down for approximately 24 hours. When I powered back up the CP alarm was gone...
All is well that ends well.
Thank you for your time!
