In reading some other posts I have seen some unusual things and this is no different. I have a small deck, approx 8' X 12' about 8 feet off the ground. The 12' dimension is parallel to the house. I want to put a roof over it. There is a window in a stairwell parallel to the deck inside the house. If I put a 4 or 5/12 pitch on the roof of the porch it will cut off light and view from that window. The one side of the stairwell is virtually open, so you can look out that window from the living room. This is a one room efficiency over a 2 car garage. A vacation home. Since this is snow country, (8800' elevation) I would like to fix the roof so it would be 3/12 in the summer and lower the end opposite the wall of the house when we leave in the fall so it will shed snow. I think I can work out the details for raising and lowering. The attachment of the roof would be above the window I mentioned and below the overhang of the house roof. I'm interested in attchment suggestions at that point. I saw a patent for a clip type hanger rail once, but don't know where such a thing is available. Open to any idea. Thanks.

Your attachment point, whether it be hinges or something else, won't take the load of the normal bearing weight, much less the snow load at your altitude. Have you checked into the retractible awning type covers? If all you need is shade and prevent snow damage, they are perfect.
