I just want to clean my kitchen cabinets really well but don't want to strip the finish or anything. I read about TSP here and am wondering if this is a good choice for a deep thorough cleaning. In places like over the stove, there is a pretty bad buildup of grease, etc.. I am not sure if the TSP is just for cleaning when you are repainting.
The cabinets are 30 years old, dark wood with a bit of a shiny (poly?) finish that is sticky in spots. There are a few places where the old owners had real "stickers" right on the cabinets that left square sticky spots. I have goo gone but am afraid to try that on the wood.
Will TSP strip the finish? Is there something better for my purposes? If TSP is the way to go, will it hurt my new prefinished hardwood floor if I drip or spill? Thanks in advance!

TSP will work. Depending on what was used for a finish, it may work too well and start taking it off. Usually a good wash with TSP is the first step to refinishing. I would start with hot soapy water, then look at a diluted TSP mixture if needed.

I'd use soap and water and make the soap a dish detergent labled as effective on grease.

Thanks for your replies. I will try the detergent and hot water first and if that does not clean well enough, try the TSP diluted. (For some reason, I was always told not to wash the wood cabinets with water so for years and years, I have been "cleaning" them with pledge-hence, the sticky mess!)
Will TSP ruin the finish on my new floors if I drip?
