I have a Bryant Plus 80 updraft unit. Recently the blower was making noise so I pulled it out disassembled it and found the shaft was gummed up with grease. I cleaned it out and relubricated the oil pads with machine oil. Worked great and was quiet for a month or 2.
(its a ge motor)
Today I noticed it was getting warm in the house and the motor was making a humming noise. Sure enough I put my hand on it and it was warm and not turning. When i turn it by hand it was very hard to turn.
first question is it typical to clean and re lube the motor? If so what type of lube is recommended?
if not should I just replace the motor and the capacitor?
Thanks in advance

Replace the motor and capacitor. It sounds like the bearings are shot. A new motor is the way to go.

Well went to a local supplier found a similar 3 speed motor was slightly bigger and more HP but I replaced it in 30 minutes along with the capacitor and I have AC again!! Thank you !!!!!!!!!

I am getting to really like this site
oh ya + since the motor was 1/3 HP instead of 1/5 HP I seem to be getting much better performance
