I work in a retirement community and one of the resident spilled saline solution on his wooden table. How can I help him get the stain out?

What kind of finish, if any, is on the table? If you don't know, do you know the history of the table - how old, where made/bought,...?

I assume the table is fairly old since the resident is in his late 80s and said his wife would be angry if she saw it and she has passed away. The table looks like oak (light wood), kind of boxy style, and some kind of light finish, very low gloss, in fact it doesn't look like much of a finish at all. The stain is lighter than the surrounding wood and is rather flakey. Hope this helps.

Have you tried clear water?
