Like every other post on here, I have a how-to question ...
We are adding an addition to the back side of the house. We have tore out the old patio slab and have poured a footer for the new construction. During the excavation we removed the old drain tile along the existing house in preparation for pouring a new larger slab. The area along the house within the area of the addition needs about 18 inches of backfill at about 12 inches wide prior to spreading gravel base for the pour. Since the slab will be beneath cover, the area should not see any accumulated moisture or runoff.
Should this backfill against the existing house footer and under this covered slab be gravel, dirt, or doesn't matter?
My father-in-law and I are close to rumbling over the issue and the wife is caught in the middle. Any advice would be appreciated.
