I am getting ready to install 12x12 slate tiles in my bathroom, my wife says to use no grout, I'm concerned that there could be a little water from time to time (when you step out of the shower) that may seep between the tiles because the slate is not perfect squares like ceramic. Is this a concern?

You are correct, use grout. Also, seal the grout to prevent stains and seal the tiles to prevent water from penetrating the tiles themselves.
