I installed new tile floor that raised toilet less than half an inch. When I reinstalled toilet (with new wax ring) it didn't get a good seal. Guy at hardware store told me to use 2 wax rings so I reinstalled toilet again with two rings. Now I still have a small leak around base of the toilet. Is there a trick to the double ring install or a better means of addressing the original issue? Maybe a general toilet installation mistake I made instead?

There are two different sizes that we use where I work. A standard(small) and a extra large(big) wax seal. In your case, I would use the big one. Its 40% thicker than the small one. In the rare cases where the large one won't work we will use two and hope for the best. Here is one that should do the trick:
