I have a window unit AC at my farm house which I only use when I am there. The other day I turned it on around 10:00a. In the afternoon, while checking the filter, I noticed that the whole area behind the filter was ice. Is this normal? The AC is brand new and have only used a few times. Maybe it is because the house was warm when I turned on the AC.
Any thoughts?

When the fan is running the filter clean and you see ice on the coil. The first thing that it can be is low freon .

Well, according to the technician at Sears, this is the result of the difference in outside air compared to the thermostat setting inside. It does not mean it is low on freon. I guess I will just watch it and see if it happens again. If it does, I guess I need to record the temperatures.
