I haven't been able to find any information about a Reliant wood lathe. Has anyone ever heard of this brand before? Also curious as to what some differences between wood and metal lathes are. Metal has better precision, lower speeds, more power, what else?

I think the Reliant name was used by a a US company or catalog. They were made in Taiwan I believe.
Metal lathes use cutting bits and the bits are held by the machine. Wood lathes use cutting tools and they are held by your hands. Metal lathes also are far more accurate and many can cut to .0001 tolerances..
