I have a Vista-20SE. My current Ademco 747 indoor sirens have built in drivers. I do not have an outdoor siren. I'm looking at adding a 745x3 voice driver. Ademco has an indoor speaker (746) that goes with the voice driver. Questions:

1. In Ademco's terminology, a "siren" has a driver included and a "speaker" needs a driver. Right or Wrong?

2. I want to a loud speaker to go in the attic. Ademco makes a 713 40 watt 8 ohm speaker. I assume it needs to be attached to a driver. If it is attached to the 746x3 driver, will the voice commands and alternating siren sounds go through the speaker?

3. Is it possible to connect/rewire my current indoor sirens (that have a driver) to the new 746x3 so that the voice commands will sound inside like the outside speaker. Or, do i need to buy separate indoor speakers?

Thanks,

Robert

In standard alarm industry nomenclature, _sirens_ are self contained and only require 12v power; Speakers require a separate driver of some type. Many newer alarm systems have built in drivers and can provide the correct output for either.

Basically the 745 is a digital voice chip with an amp. It you connect speakers within the wattage and impedance limit of the unit, it will drive them.

If you want the existing devices to make voice sounds, you have to change them to speakers.

Consider the Elk 70 & 73 indoor speakers. Now I'm a big Honeywell / Ademco user, but a speakers a speaker. And Elk has the best looking indoor speakers and sirens, and they're paintable.
