Are there any "rules" or guidelines for efficient shelving in a small 'linen' closet? It didn't have any shelving or past indication of any in it when I got here.

This is a 2'x2' closet with 18" wide hinged door and I don't want to 'personalize' it to the point where it defeats the purpose... but then again, being it's my house, I guess I could do what I want with it, right? Haha!

Seriously - is there any type of standard height guidelines for shelves?

lol... yeah... do what you want :) the way you want it... ;) Not always the case but...

the standard is 12-13" or 12-15".

Personally I would add a shelving solution that is adjustable. Get the metal shelving standards for each side of the closet that you can put the metal or plastic pegs or clips into, then add shelves as needed. That way if you wind up wanting to store something overly large/tall or small/short, you can make changes as necessary.

An adjustable setup is what might serve me best.

I just like that 3-rail "finished product" look and feel (perhaps out of habit?) but my whole concern is getting locked into what the result may be and adjustability would prevent that all around.

No worries if you can put them where you want when you want, tho'.
