I have a Sisal 11 x 16 rug in my den. It is a few years old though in good shape until recently when my kids spilled various drinks and I need to clean it ASAP as company is coming & my wife told me to do it!
I do not have funds available for professional cleaning so any ideas and specific product recommendations would be much appreciated. I am attaching photos but will list specs that is on the label on the back, in case the photo links do not work:
11x16 Wide Weave Sisal Brick
3478161
100% Sisal
Care: This rug was treated to help prevent stains. In the event of a spill, blot the affected area immediately with a dry cloth or paper towel. Do not apply water or solvents. Should a stain occur, apply a stain removing powder and vacuum.
Made in USA of imported material

Also I borrowed a carpet cleaning machine to clean other carpets & decided to test on this rug..and seems like one the brushes could not penetrate deep enough into the rug but it did help somewhat, and there were no discoloration problems, etc. I'm wondering if I could find another product that maybe more compatible, pre-treat, maybe use a brush that I could get into those grooves/fibers by hand? I also tried "Spot Shot" that I've used with success for spots on other type carpets. I tried a small area & again it worked somewhat, but would have to use a lot of cans & lots of elbow grease as takes a lot of scrubbing to see any progress. Any suggestions, guidance apreciated..
Also one of the ends is folding, I was told there is a certain type of tape available at home improvement stores that I could attach to the bottom that would adhere to the floor, and wondering what that specific item is called & if it works well with this type of rug. I am also attaching a photo & hope you can see the curling under the layer of the orange border, and would like to know if I need tape there in addition to the bottom of the rug--hope that makes sense!
Sorry for the long thread-thanks ao much for your help!

hate to say this...but hire a pro when you can afford it..first off never clean an area rug over carpet or any other subfloor..you can have moisture issues and it can cause color bleeding from your run into whatever is there...they can also shrink if overwetting occurs..i would not DIY in this case

I would hire a pro to clean the rug. I don't think tape alone is going to hold down the edges. I have a runner in the office that was curling up that I fixed by taping pennies as weights to the bottom. I used duct tape and it only started to let go after seven years.
