I am looking to purchase a steam cleaner for my kitchen and bathroom tile grout that could also double as a carpet cleaner. Any suggestions woudl be great.

Don't use it on your carpet. If your carpets need to be cleaned, hire a pro. They have better equipment than what's available to the DIYer.

i would ditto mitches statement on both accounts....there are commericial machines big $$ that can do both...tile takes heat, the right chemicals and elbow grease and pressure...carpet cleaning takes more method vs machine..
diy machines lack the needed pressure, heat and suction
it would be like building a house with a screwdriver and hammer ...no power tools
