The previous owners of my house had an electric furnace but replaced it with an oil one in order to sell the home. What I have discovered is that they done it on the cheap as the oil furnace does not feed into to the chimney, they simply put a hole in the exterior wall and fan blow the fumes out.
I have two windows and a deck near where the fumes are blown out that I now have to keep closed at all times.
I dont plan on connecting the furnace to the chimney, but my question is, could I simply duct from the opening up the side of my house to above roof level? and if so what type of ducting whould I need to use. I got a quote from a local plumbing company for six grand which I thought was on the high side for what I want to do.
Any help would be apreciated

We are going to need more info.
Make and Model # of the furnace. Also, info from the exhaust blower kit.
Also take a picture if you can so we can see what you got going on now. (need to link us to a photo host site like imageshack.us or yahoo. This site don't allow you to post pictures.)
You can have the windows open in the summer since you are not running the furnace now.

Thanks Jay for responding,
I have uploaded the pictures to google,
http://picasaweb.google.com/egan.patrick/Furnace
The furnace is heating and also hot water so we do have to keep the windows closed in the summer time unfortunately.
The furnace is a weil-mcclain Model W604
Burner is a Beckett AFG Nozzle GPH 85 Angle 80 Spray A
Im not sure of the exaust fax info, can you tell me where to look for this info? I found the draft plate info as The Field Company, Kingston NC Type R-C Draft 227G but not sure what any of this means :-(
Please let me know if you have trouble accessing the pictures or need any further info
Thanks

Humm.. I don't see a exhaust fan on your set up... I have not been around these enough to say if this is right or not? Grady should be around soon to give his feed back.

What a hacked up job!!!!
Why can't you vent the boiler into the chimney?

Ok, Grady said what I had in mind, but I didn't want to say it if I was wrong.
Seeing the black soot all over the wall outside, it needs help!
As he said, why not use the chimney?

Thanks guys for your response, I agree its a hack job, as for the best solution its probably to go through the chimney. The quote to just duct it up external was 6 grand which I think I could do myself.
Going through the chimney is not something I would even attempt so I am looking at $$$, we have some big expenses (we are looking into an adoption) and I don't think I have the $$$ for the chimney option. Any ideas of what it would cost for the chimney option?

I don't know how that set-up ever got past an inspector, even a home inspector.
Does the house currently have a chimney? If yes, where is it in relation to this boiler?

I think the statute of limitations is passed (9 years) otherwise I would have sued the home inspector, I was young & naive when I purchased. Anyways to answer your question I have a wood burner in the finished basement I would say the chimney is 15-20 feet away from the furnace. I will post some more pictures tomorrow when its bright outside to give you guys an idea of the distance inside and out
thanks

Yeah, Post some pictures of what you got.. The wood and oil can not share the same chimney.
