I have a 23-year-old Rheem condensing unit. I replaced the contactor because it was the original and I figured it was living on borrowed time. However, the original contactor was a single pole, and I replaced it with a double pole. Is this a problem? Note: the crankcase heater isn't an issue here inasmuch as it is powered from the line side of the contactor.

Lots of companys just use a single contactor cause it cost less is all. the new one you put in is ok. Yes 23 years is old old . You can get one now with a lot better SEER all the way up to 19. That can save you $$$$ over the years
