what is the best treatment for wood outdoors? I have built 2 picnic tables and a couple adirondac chairs and want a good protectant placed on them. I dont want to paint...i think that thomson water seal or the like would leave an oily residue on clothes...looking for good idea!
i heard from someone that it would be good to put a marine grade poly on the stuff. any thoughts?

I made a cover for my daughter's wading pool by putting three coats of spar urethane on an old sheet of OSB I had in the garage and it's held up through two summers outside so far.

We put marine grade poly on some exterior wood doors and it's held up great. If you live in a snowy area I would still put some sort of cover on the furniture for winter.

A boating outlet might have a better grade of marine/spar urathane but minwax's helmsman is available most anywhere.

Helmsman is what I used, bought it at Menards.

but he MAY HAVE applied it incorrectly...i am not sure what he did...did he sand the wood? did he apply more than one coat? i dont know that is all i ment. i will look into it and see what he did or did not do and probably try that stuff myself!
