I'm about to have some wilsonart red label laminate installed. I'm debating over the 2-in-1 padding versus the more expensive acoustic padding. In what situations would the acoustic padding be needed? Does it make difference walking over it ? I read some posts where thicker padding could cause problems from being to "cushy". Laminate is being put in the first floor over the wood sub floor. thanks for any insight!

Based on my own personal experience, my recommedation would be to go with the thinner padding as I think the extra padding is not worth the cost, and yes it did add a bit of a cushy feel to my floor. In fact, you can see a very slight flexing when somebody walks across my entire floor. This might be because I went with a pretty thin laminate plank, so I guess it depends also on the strength/duribility of that particular laminate.
