A couple unanswered questions before this newbie starts.
1. Is it difficult to install floating 3 1/2" wide flooring by having the tongue and groove glued together? Any tips on this procedure.
2. Is it ok to install a floating floor parallel to the joists?
3. Do you use shims for the expansion gaps and knock them out after? What kind of shims?
Thanks!

Those are questions for the manufacturer of the flooring, to answer directly. It should all be in the installation instructions for the peticular flooring you have chosen.
