What is a normal temp of the air coming out of the register on a heat pump in cool mode? My first level heat pump register temp is right around 60-61*. My level 2 heat pump temperature at the register is 55* at an interior register and 63-64* at a register that runs up an exterior wall (a wall the sun beats on for about 40% of the day). Just wondering if these are normal ranges...

our target is a 40' coil, if you can achieve that then the temp coming out of the registers varies with the amount of time - length of flex runs in the attic.
the "average" or target is 15-22' split. meaning the temperature going into the return cools of those degrees before entering the house.

So should I measure the air going into the returns for the second floor on the ceiling or the return in the basement at the furnace. Both floors share a return trunk when they get to the basement and then split to their respective furnace. So even if only 1 unit is on there is still some air being sucked through the returns of the floor that is not on.

never heard of that before. Not sure how to respond to that, but if the upstairs is the unit giving you fits, then get the split there. if it is the other then get the split form downstairs.
