Ok.. so I just changed my condensor fasn motor after it started making noises and doing a "stop and go" routine. Now that I changed it.. the air still hasn't cooled down. What's the possibility I ruined my compressor? Or? Any ideas what else could be wrong? It was working fine until the fan started making the freaky noises. A couple nights later I noticed it looked like it was struggling. We had a power outtage day before yesterday and I noticed it hasn't blown cold since.

Thanks for any advice...

Had the cap checked, even though it looked fine and dandy. The guy said it was fine when I has it tested. When teh fan WASN'T working and I was outside watching it... there was kinda a loud hum from below. Is that what a compressor sounds like? Or should it be loud? Is there another way to check?

The compressor makes a fair amount of noise, more than the fan. Feel the copper lines, the big one should be cool to cold. The small, warm to hot.

Just an update. Compressor fried because of the fan frying. Spent $1300 this morning... after installing a new compressor last summer. Frickin bummer.

I'm sorry to hear that coz you're right it is a bummer. What was the warranty situation on the compressor you had installed last year?

I couldn't even get hold of the guy that did it. Last year I had problems to. I doubt it'd be covered anyway since it was the fan that caused the compressor to overheat and not a malfunctioning compressor itself. House was cool when I got home eysterday.. guess that's all that matters in the end. 3 hot nights was enough!
