I have a Ademco 4110xm system and have 2 sliding doors with magnetic sensors. That zone doesn't work, all others do. I traced the wires and all seems to be connected. On the keypad it reads "FC" which means communication failure. Could this be bad sensors? The trouble shooting guide says to call for service.
Any help out there?

Is your service being monitored?

Does the panel detect a fault with those sliding doors?

FC means that the system is failing to communicate. If you aren't monitored/don't have live phone lines, you have to disable the dialer.

This has nothing to do do with the open zone issue. For that, check the obvious: is the magnet in place on the sliding door for the contact? If so, the contact switch may be bad.

Assuming this has been working, have you recently had any phone work done? Change to VOIP (voice over IP) or some type of phone service? If so, that will be what caused the problem, and if you give us some details, we can tell you how you might fix it.

As far as the door, is it always faulted/open? Or does it show clear even when the door is open? Any changes in the doors themselves?

I did move my phone system to Vonage VOIP but not using the ALARM option or dialing out. Door sensors on all other doors are working fine only the 1 zone that is using the magnetic contact sensors in the sliding doors doesn't work. I could order new Magnetic Sensors for the doors, they are only $3.50 each. I am only using the Chime option for now. When I open the doors I get absolutely nothing. Any more help you can give would be appreciated!

Simple test for door: remove the wires from the contact and twist them together. If the zone closes, then you have a bad contact, if it doesn't, then you either have wiring issues, or a failed zone input on the motherboard.

For the telco, if you haven't been using the system, but it was in place from a prior owner, or a discontinued monitoring account, it's sitting idle until something happened that made it try to send a trouble or alarm signal. Look in the FAQ for the basic instructions of how to get into programming and kill the dialer (which will make FC go away).

As MrRon said, it was probably still programmed for monitoring. And a decent monitoring company would have it calling in an automatic test weekly, or at least monthly. If this was the case, after you switched to Vonage, the next time the signal was supposed to be sent, it couldn't do it. It doesn't know it's not monitored.

For the record, alarm systems that dial over the telephone lines won't communicate with VOIP. You have to choose another method, either cell, radio or internet, or special monitoring.

As for the doors, follow MrRon's testing procedures first. If per chance your doors are stuck in the normal position, than you probably have a pinched wire or a bad zone on the panel.
