1st, is forced air and central heat the same?

2nd, Would it be wise to convert to a central system for heat in Renovation that will not be gutting the whole house but will be creating an open living space on 1st floor with a 2-story entry with 3BRs & 2 baths on second floor. Also, the basement will be completely finished and its entry from kitchen/family rooms will be open.

I would like to keep 2 zones for heat and the new cooling system.

thanks for replying

Why in heavens name would anyone want to give up the comfort & flexibility of hot water heat for scorched air?

Central heat can be any form of heating system in which heat is delivered from a heater to the various rooms. It matters not if it is via ducts or pipes.
Technically, electric baseboard is not "central heat".

If you want to add A/C, have an air handler, condensing unit, & ducts installed for each "zone". Installation in this manner will be more costly up front but the comfort level & operating cost will be far better than with one system serving the entire house.
