I am building a desk made of oak, the top will be 32" x72" made of oak plywood. it will be stained and clear coated.

I am wanting to know the best clear coat to use, so it is durable and the top will last. Any suggestions? I would like to spray it on, but can brush it if necessary.

Thanks,

Just Bill

Polyurethane, in the sheen of your choice. Minwax and others are available is spray cans.

a catalyzed lacquer or conversion varnish will hold up better then any product you can brush on. both of these need to be sprayed. Are you looking to fill teh majority of the grain on the oak? if so, there are sealers that work very well for that.
