I installed an attic door with ladder kit. AS per the instructions to ensure the frame is square i measured the frame diagonally. there is a 1/8" difference between the two measurements.

1/8" difference is suppose to be within the tolerable limits for squareness but the door is not closing completely flush; there is a slight gap at one corner which means my squareness is off too much.

how would i fix this? do i need to adjust the shims?

thanks in advance for any help

Yes. That would be the best course of action, imo.

It may not be the total squareness of the frame, but the unlevelness of the bottom of the unit. If one corner falls down or rises up slightly during installation, it will hold the door open in the opposite corner. Just a thought.

Chandler brought up a good point. You may also want to check all the bolts and connections at the pivot points etc for tightness. They may have become loose..or the wood has since 'dried' out more since originally made which would result in some loose connections/joints.
