Our 9 yr old Ducane BBq has ceramic pyramid shaped briquettes...
Assuming should be replaced for efficiency, though we scrape off the drippings every so often.
Is it ok to substitute a different shape ceramic briquette? No dealer for the product within 50 miles of us.

Ducane is now a division of Weber Grills. It is possible that a Weber dealer "may" be able to get you the proper briquettes.
Another brand might work but there's only one way to find out.
As to your previous question concerning cleaning...there are specific grill cleaners on the market that would be a better choice but I have heard of people using oven cleaner on grates.

I have, on my grill, but I removed them from the grill and cleaned them seperately.
Works fine.
