I have a 1 1/2 storey war house and I would like to know if I can run the heating through a ceiling joist which is about the same size as the ducting I took down. the reason? the hallway was so tiny due to the old ducting that was framed about 16 inches from the old ceiling and I'd like to open it up. I would then run it into a "heat pillar" that will be in the center of the main floor of the house. Any feedback would be great.

What do you mean by running heating do you mean duct? What is a heat pillar?
