Is it really worth buying a whole house dehumidifier? I hear you save a lot in energy costs? Is this true? I am planning to buy a portable one but I am concerned that I will be paying a lot in energy costs per month since I have a musty humid basement. Any thoughts

How much is something like that? I notice Sante Fe has many products and this is the lower end which is probably more than enough for me already.

Is this Sante Fe Dehumidifier a plug and play device? Will I need purchase anything else or is that the only thing I need? Where's the best place to position this in my basement?
Is it OK to workout in my basement on a treadmill if the humidity level is from 50% - 65%? I want to make sure I'm not hurting myself more than helping myself. Thank you!

Run the drain line and plug it in. RH should not be above 55%. Above 55% can cause mold growth.

I doubt it'll do you any harm physically, but it'll sure be a lot more uncomfortable and make you sweat more!
High humidity makes a basement smell musty (mold growth presumably).

If you have a large area with moisture or musty odor problems then a whole house dehumidifier is the way to go.
A big unit with a large fan can drop the humidity levels fast, which means it won't run nearly as often as a small portable. The cost to run a large unit is typically a lot less than a portable unit that tries to run 24/7 to keep up. The whole house unit will cost more initially, but if you intend to use it during the dehumidification season for several years then it will pay for itself and be far more cost effective when compared to a small portable unit.
