Realistically, for a single plank of 5 inch width, 1/2 inch thick engineered hardwood (7 plys), how much could it expand along the width? Was thinking of using these planks to frame a stone tile and would like as little gap between wood and tile as safely possible. Thanks.

One of the good features about engineered wood is its stability. Unless the wood became soaked with water, there's not much movement to be expected. Putting it around the tile is a great idea for highlighting the area.
