well, id like to say thank you to everyone in advance for any help you may give. as with this being my first post, ill give you a little history with my problem... i just moved into the house, well not JUST moved in, it was actually about a year and a half ago. the owner of the house, her and her husband got a divorce and she was awarded the house. when i moved in, she said there is an alarm in the home, and if you can get it to wrok, and you woant to pay for the monitoring, you can... well, ive been through almost every wire in the system, trying to figure out why the front door will never show closed, and i finally figured it out... the EOL resistor's lead was destroyed somehow, and it doesnt make contact... so instead of replacing the resistor, i made a makeshift repair, and it works.... for now..... im trying to figure out what the impedance of the resistor is, so that i can purchase a new one, and replace it... then i can return the system to a fully operational state, and get the monitoring turned back on... also, how do i tell which motion detectors i have hardwired to my system, so i can figure out if my cats will set them off when im away... (i have 5[five] cats, 4 kittens and a momma cat)

The standard resistor for most recent Ademco panel is 2k ohm.
Websearch using the phrase "resistor color code" if you want to know what the little color bands mean.
If you have motions, usually the tell-tales light when you walk by. If the led was disabled, you need to have someone watch the keypad while you move in the field of view of the device. It sounds like they didn't write the zone chart on the keypad label.

no, they didnt write the zones on the keypad, but inside the box. i know what zones they are, but i just dont want to turn the whole system on with the motions if my cats are going to set them off... i was wondering if there was an easy way to figure out what MODEL my motions are, so that i may figure out if my cats will set them off...

Take the cover off and read the label. It will be either on the circuit board, or a sticker inside the cover on most models. In general, unless the device overlooks something that will allow a cat sized animal to move/climb to within 4-5 feet of the detector sensor, they usually won't trip even the most basic motion. If it's a real worry, simply arm the system in away mode/bypass the detector.

ive got two motions, both set up to cover the entire house, except for one room. that one room has window sensors, and i believe that the owner had a dog and kept the dog in that one room... that one room is now my office, and i refuse to have a litterbox in my office... i just want to make sure that a total of 5(five) cats is NOT going to set the motions off, so that i know that my house shall be secure. my main concern is someone coming in through one of my kitchen windows when the motion is off and taking my tv and stuff... and i cant add two window sensors to my kitchen/dining area windows...

Hmmm, 5 cats. That's a much tougher problem. With that many, your odds of a false trip go _way_ up. It sounds like you have one of the el cheepo installs that were being done for awhile where they put a couple of door and window contacts on, and "covered" the rest of the residence with a couple of motion detectors (this is the classic $99 "special").
You may have to consider getting a wireless card for this thing so that you can put contacts where _you_ need them. The previous owner clearly had a different lifestyle and habits.

The only way I would use motions with five cats is if I uses Bosch DS-835i motion detectors. They would need to be monted correctly, at 7.5' and with no objects within 6' of the detectors. Otherwise, arm to stay...and pray.
