I recently renovated my 1930's apartment. I had an electrician add an overhead light fixture to my livingroom. Knowing I was planning to put in a ceiling fan, he wired up 2 switches so that I could control the lights and fan separately. He also left a bulb hanging so that I would have light in the meantime.

There are 3 wires - white, black, and red. White and black are being used for the light at the moment, and red is just hanging.

Are both black and red hot? Will one hook up to the fan motor and the other to the light kit?

This fan comes with a remote as well. Are there any issues with the above wiring?

Thanks

Both are hot, each switched by a separate toggle switch on the wall.

Does that mean that one will go to the fan motor and the other to the light kit?

Both are hot, each switched by a separate toggle switch on the wall.

You have two switched hot wires. You can do whatever you want with them.

Yes. You should connect the red to the fan hot wire and the black to the light hot wire. Connect the white wire to the white wire on the fan/light.
If you want to use the remote for this fan then the wire connection will different and you will need to leave at least one of the switches always on for the remote to work.
