I just moved into an apartment built in the 1930's.
I have a pendant lamp that I want to hang in my kitchen.
The contractor left the old fixture hanging, unattached to the ceiling - for painting purposes - with the white and black wires connected, and the old fixture's ground wire unattached.
When I look in the box, I see only the white and black lines (they are the old cloth insulated kind).
Do I need to hook up the ground wire on the new fixture? If so, what to?

Just screw it to the box, or use a ground clip to clip it to the side.
