I have a 2 year old dining table that has been by a slider, and parts of it are now faded!! This is a solid oak table that is now much lighter than the chairs and matching china cabinet. Is there a way of darkening the lighter areas? Or do I have to have it refinished?? Thanks

Furniture in a sunlit area is suseptible to a lot of "bleaching" by the ultra violet rays of the sun.

A lot of companies utilize a dye stain rather than a pigmented stain and the dye is much more effected by exposure to the sun. Previously this was more prominant with cherry furnishings.

Unfortunately the only solution to the color variation is to refinish the affected furniture and to lessen the exposure to the sun.

Best of luck,
CD

Some species of wood are more photosensitive to UVB rays than others. As indicated, cherry is particularly photosensitive, more so than oak. It is important to protect one's furnishings from UVB by using UVB rated windows as well as keeping windows covered when exposed to sun. It is also helpful to rotate furnishings, furniture, and area rugs seasonally.
