Not sure what it is actually called which is probably why I'm having trouble finding what I want.

I would like to separate my kitchen from my dining table area. Right now there is just a counter and the ceiling goes from kitchen to dining area to living room (all open).

Something like strip of wood mounted to ceiling with 8-10" spindles vertically and then a bottom strip? Or maybe just a "fake beam" mounted to the ceiling to separate the rooms? Thought about using a strip of crown molding like what I am planning to put up in the LR/dining area but it's only 3" in height and that's not enough.

Home is only 13 years old and I don't have a decorating theme or furniture style so I am open to just about any suggestions.

Thanks,

If it was on a piece of furniture, what you describe would be called a gallery rail - but those are normally only 2-4" in height. For the size you want, you'll probably have to go to someplace on line like Rocker or Van Dykes and buy the parts to make what you want.

George, thanks for the reply.

Found VanDykes site and what I want is called a spandrel (I think). Didn't like the looks of the ones they offered, tried to check Rockers but all I got were links to rocking chairs or bands...........is it a company like VanDykes?

Try "Rocklers" misspelled originally. They do have a good selection of stuff.

Thanks Larry for the correct spelling. I checked their site too, nothing really caught my eye. I think I will just have hubby build me what I want.

Decided I didn't want it open even with spindles so I'm thinking that maybe a "l_l" shaped beam about 12" in height would do it. I could prime it and then paint it to match the trim on the LR/DR side and paint the back side to match the kitchen.

He'll have to figure out how to attach/mount it...I have no ideas on that.

Thanks again. Kathy
