I have owned a pair of nice torchieres for 8 years. They each have a ceiling directed halogen bulb which continues to function well. They also have down turned small halogen lamps on an adjustabel arm for reading, controlled by a separate dimmer.
Recently, one of them would not turn off! I had to take the bulb out.
Then 2 weeks later the other one went one spontaneously without me touching the lamp!! I could not turn it off (the switch was already off obviously). I had to remove that bulb??
Is there a ghost in the apartment or does static electricity, radio waves or barometric pressure activate old tired bulbs?????????????????

Sounds like the switch has failed. What kind of switch is it? Is it a rotary switch on the lamp itself?
