I am having some trouble taking this dryer apart. I have model 110.96292100 and I am sure that it is probably the heating element but I can't figure anyway to get into it...LOL

Thanks,

wallman

Does your dryer only have one solid panel on the front? Or does your front have two panels? - one of which being below the door.

When you get it apart, be sure to check the stats first.

It has a two panel front, with the dryer screen being on the inside.

The bottom panel will pop off by slipping a putty knife inbetween the two panels, in about 3-4 inches in on each side. The bottom panel is supported on the very bottom by 2 more clips down there, and when the top two are released, pull the top of it outward and then raise the panel off the two bottom support clips. Make visual note that there will be slots in the botom panel, so that when you reinstall it, make sure you have the bottom slots going over the two bottom support clips. Then the top part of that panel will just snap back in place.

So, remove the bottom as said. Then to get the top off - that is more time consuming than most as I believe you have to undo the back of the control panel and lean the control panel inward some to get at the screws that are underneath the control panel, out, on each side. Then you will be able to slide the top of the machine forward which then allows you to raise up the front of the top. Then once the top is up in the air, you can unscrew the top of the front panel.

My memory is not clear on every detail , but I think this will give you a good start and you can figure out the rest as you go, if you encounter resistance (like more screws) and you can then tell where they might be.

If that does not work, place you putty knife or something similar about 3 inches from the corners on top under the top of dryer and push in whuile applying upward pressure on the top. Raise top and look just inside the top front. May have to pull slightly forward on the top after removing these screws to get it to raise. Also like was stated check around the control panel for screws. If there is a screw on each side, take a 5/16 nutdriver or socket and remove them. If this is the way your dryer is designed, you will then be able to see how the bottom panel comes off. May also have to pull up slightly on the front panel to get it to disengage any clips and/or pins and slots that may be going down the front corners of the cabinet

Like ec said, it has been a while for me too. I am a little surprised how hazy I am on some of this stuff.

Got to thinking about this. Have you checked to see that you are getting full voltage to the dryer? Do you have breakers or fuses? If fuses, it takes two to supply 220 voltage to the dryer. Learned this the hard way many years ago before I had my old fuse box replace with a breaker box. One reason why I got interested appliances. Check the simple stuff first. Check the wall outlet. Then check at the terminal block on back of dryer. 110 from ground to each hot leg. 220 from hot leg to hot leg.

By the way, if the lint filter is in the top of the dryer, remove the two screws holding the filter cage to the top. If it is in the door area, remove the filter and see if there is a thermostat there. You have no heat at all?

Sory Boman, I have been on vacation and just got back in town. I will check the voltage tomorrow to make sure I am getting 220v to the wall socket. I have no heat at all. The filter is in the door...I cant see the thermostat.

You said the lint screen is inside-when you open the door it is on the bottom, cresant shaped? If so, make SURE you have 240 volts at the plug, and into the terminal block (where the cord connects to). That style dryer is a G.E., made for Sears under the Kenmore name. You have to tear these down to parade rest to change elements. With the top open look for thermo's on the metal pan by the back of the drum. This is where the elements are. Check these, if good will have to replace heating elements. To replace the heating element, you have to pull the drum, which means removing the front. On the back of the dryer, about in the middle should be a removable plate. Open this and remove the "C" clip. This is the rear bearing retainer. You will have to "restring" the elements. While you have it apart, replace the rear bearing (really just a bushing-their cheap) and the rollers. Make sure your vent line is clean and the flapper opens. When apart this far I would also clean out the area under the lint screen. With the front off it is easy to remove and clean out.
