Hello,

My Kenmore electric dryer. Model # 970-C80042-00 is squealing.
I shut it off and turnrd the drum by hand and it feels pretty tight at one point in it's rotation. Any ideas. I was going to take off the top but couldn"t figure out how to get it off.
All advice is appreciated

I had this trouble with mine a while back and changed the ball and socket bearing at the rear of the dryer. It was not expensive and served as a good occasion to clean the lint out of it before it exploded.

Look under drum, cabinet and part 12 is what you need. This is a GE machine. To take off top and remove drum Unplug machine
Take 2 screws from door area top they are about 2 inches long. Pull top forward and tilt up top will come out from under rear clips. In side front there are 2 screws 1 on each side to take out. tilt front out off drum and move to side. Unplug wires to door switch Mark how wires connected as sometimes they can be crossed. look at belt and see how it is threaded and take off motor shaft. use belt to lift drum up and pull drum out front. Be sure to lube bearing well. When you take off plastic bearing be sure not to lose the small ball bearing. Let us know how repair went , should take about a hour. How long has if been squeaking? If a long time you may need the complete bearing assy.

I bought the kit and followed your instructions and it only took one and a half hour.
Total time spent included a thorough cleaning of the unit and "help" from my 4 year old twins.

thanks
