Ok so I like to think I am pretty handy at most things. I have changed most of the fixtures and lights in our new 2006 home. However the Dinind and kitchen have me stumped and afraid. They are both on the same breaker so I would assume are interconnected somehow. I changed the ceiling fan in the kitchen to a regular 2 light fixture (it has a three way switch) and then I proceded to change the dimmer switch in the dining room to a regular flip switch. Everything seemed standard and I put the breaker back on and threw the switch... WELL... The switch in the dining room decided to throw a little tantrum and sparked and only one light in the kitchen came on instead of two and both light switches were OFF. (the light in the kitchen is a three way and the one in the dining room just a standard) (my husband would flip if he found out I had sparks flying) anyway. I am sure I have done something wrong (DUH :o) so it the kitchen (where the fan used to be) there are three black wires and three white wires, a red one and a green. How would I orient these into a new ficture with two black wires and two white and a green ground (I know the green goes to green lol)
now in the dining room where the dimmer switch was there are 2 black wires, two white wires and a red. How would I orient these into a single flip switch? I hope I am clear enough for some help Otherwise I am going to have to get a tradesmen and considering I live hours in the bush this will cost a min of $200 so I want to try and get it done myself as I know it's pretty simple. (I would not take a chance burning the place down) your EXPERT advice would be apreciated.

To accurately answer your question, we would need to know ALL the wiring at the switches and at the ceiling.
The simple answer to your question is that the same wires that were attached to the old fixture get attached to the new ones.
The most likely answer is that the red wires are the swtched hot, so they get attached to the fixture hot wires, and the white wires are the neutrals, so they get all connected together.
However, I would verify everything with a meter and by examining the switches first.
