Hi, I have a computer armoire(5ft h) and on top of it I've put several pictures(11) in 8x10, 5x7 and 3.5x5 sizes. The frames are either black, antique gold or pewter. The subject is all of the ancestors, so they're all in black and white.

I elevated the pictures I put in the rear, and tried to lay the others out so you can see them. Unfortunately, it just looks jumbled. How can I get it to look nice, not cluttered and so when you have to slightly look up, you can see them all? Should I hang a couple higher on the wall?

Thank You, Lori

Eleven pictures are quite a few to put on a small surface.
It is hard to offer suggestions without knowing about the room but spreading them out would be the thing to do.

Some on the wall and/or on a wall shelf might work.

they look jumbled because you're mixing too many materials that don't go together. to unify the arrangement/collection, you should be using all black, all pewter, or all antique gold frames. they can be all different styles, shapes & sizes, but all need to be in the same finish so they'll look like an interesting (but not chaotic) collection. the only option i see to avoid purchasing new frames would be to spray paint all the pewter & gold ones black.

one thing you did right was to have all the images in black & white.

that said, a collection of table frames looks best when viewed from above, like when they're placed on a buffet table or dresser top, because a table frame is already angled upward. you might want to rethink this whole deal and hang them all on the wall. they'll look better hung up than sitting on a surface that's already 5 feet high.

not to mention, dusting around 11 frames gets old real quick. been there/done that!

Another cool idea: you could ditch all the frames and get a piece of tempered glass cut to fit the top of the desk and arrange the photos under the glass. I saw it in a magazine, it looks very cool. And no dusting!!!

that IS a cool idea.........for a coffee table. but not for the top of a 5' high armoire. :o

LOL I was thinking to do it on the desk surface, not the top of the armoire. You called it a computer armoire, so I assumed it had a desk part where the computer goes.

:) Otherwise only really tall friends would see it.
