Kid was changing his oil and spilled it on the driveway. The drive is an exposed aggregate with the interlocking, red colored pavers running through it, and now some of the pavers are dark colored like they are always wet.
The exposed aggregate isn't too bad as that was sealed pretty good, but I am afraid to try anything on the pavers for fear of making them look worse than they are. I know muriatic acid will clean a cement driveway pretty good but I'm not sure what it will do to the color of the pavers.
Anybody know of a way effectively to clean them?
Thanks...Randy

I don't remember the brand but I picked up some degreaser at Lowes several years ago to clean a garage floor to ready it for stain. It worked well. I'd try the least caustic methods first.

I had the same problem.
I used everything I could find including muriatic acid.
The oil stain will never completely come out of the paving stones as they act like a sponge.
However,I did have some success with kitty litter, the clumping kind.spread it on the stain and grind it in with your boot.
You will se it darkening as it soaks up the oil.
repeat a few times.
Brush it off dont spray as it expands when it contacts water making a big mess as I found out when it rained.
Next, you can turn the paving stone over,or replace it.

Thanks guys. I got some stuff from HD and tried it. I'm pretty sure the main ingredient is muriatic acid, as it smelled just like it, but my fears were not realized. It didn't turn the pavers a different color. Anyway, it worked somewhat. Got most of it out to where it doesn't look half bad. I can live with it. Maybe it will get better over time with the rains.

I have always had excellent luck cleaning oil off of a regular cement driveway with plain old liquid dish soap, like Dawn. Just like cleaning a greasy pan, it cuts through it quite well. Good Luck.

That was the first thing I tried...right away, and it didn't work.
