I have an american standard freedom 78 furnace. Tonight as the ac unit outdoor kicked on you could hear the blower in the basement click or hum like it was going to start-but it did not. Is sounds like it wants to, meaning you can hear the click or hum, but then nothing? Any ideas-Im not handy so type slowly----earlier in the day i changed the fuses to the outside ac unit because the fan wasnt sppinning. Once that was done it worked fine---do you think there is any relationship between the out door fan not working (till i changed the fuse) and now the furnace blower not working? any help would be appreciated......al

The indoor, and outdoor fan has no ties at all..

Does the fan run if you give it a push with a stick?

If the fan takes off when you give it a push, it may need a new capacitor.

Jay,
I just tried to move the fan-it seems to move freely. Is the capacitor (?) something that is easily changed? thanks

ok-now i am confused-- I turned the thermostat down which normally would cause the system to go on. I was not expecting it to because as i said earler it stopped working......well ..you guessed it .it just went on this morning..??? Could it be because I moved the fan (?) a bit---could it be that there is an overheat mechanism or something----any suggestions....or could I have a part that is going but just has not gone completly yet? Any help would be greatly appreciated....thanks
